Valga Museum launches a series of locally guided walking tours called MY VALGA
On these tours, people from Valga and those connected to Valga share stories about their Valga – what is important and significant to them. This strengthens the sense of community and allows knowledge to be shared, from the city’s own people to its own people.
A similar concept of excursions, where the floor is given to local community members, fans of the area, and specialists in their field to tell the stories of their city, is quite new in Estonia. All tour guides choose their own route and tell their own stories of Valga. The common feature is that the excursions last about 1.5 hours; everything else depends on the guide, making each tour special and unique.
The excursion series will be opened by Valga municipality mayor Mart Kase with the first My Valga tour. In the autumn of 2026, a total of six walks will take place.
6 August at 16:00 Valga rural Municipality Mayor Mart Kase
5 September at 13:00 former Valga City Architect and Valga fan Jiri Tintera
19 September Valga-Valka specialist Lauri Drubinš
3 October writer Kuido Merits
10 October Valga Museum director Neeme Punder
All tours start and end in different places, and information about this will be provided on the museum's website here. To avoid restrictions as a community gathering, the tours are free for participants.
The tours will continue in the spring and summer of 2027. Then, the walks will be led by Valga fan, historian and teacher Jaak Juske, local history enthusiast Kalev Härk, and member of the Riigikogu Ester Karuse. Nature expert Rein Kuresoo will introduce Valga's urban nature, writer Valdur Mikita will talk through a philosophical prism about the charms and pains of a small border town, and EKA professor and car designer Björn Koop and content creator Kethi Uibomägi will lead tours on their own Valga routes.
The guided tours will be held in the Estonian language.
