Estonian-Latvian History Conference: 800 Years of Common and Differnt History in Estonia and Latvia Dedicated to the Year of Terra Mariana

Background of the Conference

This event marked the beginning of our tradition to organize Estonian-Latvian history conferences once a year. In addition to our museum, the first such conference was organized by the Latvian-Estonian Institute, and the initial conferences were held at the newly opened building complex of the Valgamaa Vocational Education Center, symbolically located near the state border on the outskirts of Valga city. As the title of the first conference suggests, the aim was to find common ground. The working languages continue to be both Estonian and Latvian, with simultaneous translation provided in both languages, and notable researchers of Estonian and Latvian history and cultural history are invited. The target audience remains local communities, with the aim of informing them about past times and guiding their focus towards the future.

Conference materials are avalable in the Estonian version of the museum website.
