The exhibition Cradle Rocker invites everyone interested in birth stories of the Estonian people to think and talk. We are interested in collecting birth stories and have made a call to gather items related to pregnancy, birth, and child-rearing. In addition to older information, we also collect stories and items from the Soviet era and today to compare the results with materials preserved at the Estonian National Museum (ERM). This allows us to analyse how aspects related to childbirth have changed over the last 100 years. We believe the cradle ensures survival of every nation and ethnicity — caring for the cradle of the family, lineage, and people. We wish to honour the makers of cradles, motherhood, fatherhood, midwives, baby blanket knitters as well as cradle rockers, and preserve information about birth-related customs for future generations.
Exhibition curators: Marju Rebane, Pikne Kama, Marit Külv, and Kristel Põldma.
