My Valga through the Eyes of City Architect
Former Valga city architect Jiri Tintera takes interested participants on a walk through Valga's old town, including a detour across the border into Valka, Latvia. The tour covers historical events that have shaped the modern appearance of Valga and Valka, and discusses how urban space influences the well-being and identity of local people. Together, participants reflect on what makes a good city and consider what could be improved in Valga in the future. The tour guiding and discussions will be held in the Estonian language.
Jiri Tintera was born in what was then Czechoslovakia in 1981. He graduated from the Czech Technical University with a master's degree in 2007 and obtained his doctorate from Tallinn University of Technology in 2019. His doctoral thesis was titled Revitalization of the Living Environment in Shrinking Cities: The Case Study of Valga. From 2013 to 2023, he worked as architect for the city and municipal government of Valga. Currently, the certified architect-expert Jiri Tintera works as City Architect of Tartu.
