Tsirguliina Library will open the August Gailit exhibition in its premises on May 22, 2026.

The exhibition was completed at the Valga Museum last year by April 29, when, as part of the Prima Vista festival, the Gailit short story award was presented to the laureate, who turned out to be the writer Ave Taavet for the short story Tormidesööja (Eater of Storms).

August Gailit (1891-1960) was born near Sangaste Manor at Kuiksilla farm, when his father was overseeing the construction of the manor’s outbuildings. Later, the family moved near Laatre Manor. The writer’s parents spent the end of their lives in Tsirguliina, in the house at Raudtee Street 9 that belonged to tailor Braun, who was also the prototype for Toomas Nipernaadi. They both are buried in Laatre I cemetery.

The Gailit exhibition at Tsirguliina Library will remain open until the end of September.
