More than twenty-five interested people gathered at the Valga Museum for the exhibition opening. First, in the museum gallery, the exhibition curator Kaarel Vissel, who works as the collection manager at Valga Museum, gave a detailed overview of the principles behind the creation of this exhibition. He also drew attention to certain items that hold special historical and cultural value.

The oldest exhibit in the exhibition is the Valga borough seal from 1460, depicting the Virgin Mary with a child and a staff. There are also symbols of Valga city and county from different eras, postcards from the Tsarist era, and relics from the pre-independence period before the Second World War. A separate category consists of Soviet-era pennants, badges, emblems, caps, and more. There is also symbolism from the time of the restoration of independence.

According to Vissel, the motto of the exhibition is “Bright as a festive mood, steadfast as the feeling of home. Souvenirs and symbolism in Valgamaa.”

Afterwards, the participants moved to the exhibition booth in the display hall on the museum’s first floor to take a closer look at the exhibits.

The exhibition will remain open for several months.
