An exhibition dedicated to the 75th anniversary from opening of the current Valga railway station is displayed in the waiting hall of the railway station frpm December 6, 2024. The historic Valga Station was destroyed during World War II.
The grand Stalinist-style building of Valga Railway Station was officially opened on December 14, 1949. The structure is a station building with a hipped roof and a rectangular floor plan, with its most striking architectural accent being a seven-story high tower with a square floor plan. The building was completed according to a special project, and its architect was Viktor Tsipulin, whose projects have also been used for station buildings in Petrozavodsk, Astrakhan, Riga, Saratov, and elsewhere in the former Soviet Union. The construction works involved prisoners of war from Germany, Austria, and Hungary held in the Valga POW camp. Today, the owner of the Valga Railway Station building is the Valga Municipality Government. The exhibition is supported by Valga County Expert Group of Estonian Cultural Endowment.
